Week 8 Site specific: Tyra Logan

I visited Irvine Spectrum for this week's blog. In the first picture it shows the overall environment of the shopping mall. The mall is decorated with Christmas decor with lights that illuminate the long walkway with access to all of the stores and restaurants. I think the designers were trying to achieve bringing the holiday spirit which would make people want to buy things for the holiday season. Also, having additional lighting makes the mall more inviting and family friendly for people to want to spend a lot of time in the area.

The second image is of a restaurant in the spectrum. The overall theme was dimmed warm tone lighting. I think this restaurant was trying to go for an intimate cozy feeling but I think using the light in this way failed. The intensity of the lighting made it hard to see whats even through the windows. Normally people would look through the windows of a restaurant or store to see if its worth going into. If you are not able to see you are more likely to keep walking and not be compelled to go into the restaurant.

The third image is of H&M, a clothing store in the spectrum. This store has bright clear lighting making the store have a welcoming feeling. I was compelled to go into this store because I do not have to make effort into trying to see what the store has. The intensity of the lighting made it easy to see what type pf clothing they had and what the prices are for these items.

  1. Nice post. I enjoyed your observances of each area and emphasizing what you thought the designers were trying to do vs. what they did. Nice work!
